Barcino Designs produces handmade mosaic figurines in Barcelona, Spain.
Barcino gets its creative inspiration from the Modernist Trencadís technique that is attributed to the Spanish architect Gaudi. Bull fighters, bulls, flamenco dancers and a variety of animals are intricately carved and individually hand painted in mosaic. The Barcino mosaic collection makes great souvenirs and gifts from Spain that are sophisticated and brighten any decor.
All the Barcino Design sculptures are completely handmade. The creative process begins with an idea that proceeds into a hand drawn sketch. The idea is to produce a figure that incorporates movement and vitality.
The next step is to create a 3D computer simulation that includes choosing the colors to be used.
The figurine is then hand sculpted and finished with small incisions that give the sculpture a mosaic or trencadis effect, the creative signature of Barcino Designs.
Once a figurine is perfected, a mold is made to create duplicates sculptures. Then each new figure is, one by one, laboriously hand painted with a paintbrush.
The Barcino Design figurines are true pieces of art.
