Ceramica del Rio Salado was established in 1969 by José Del Rio and prides itself on its original designs and its success in bringing clay to life. The Del Rio Salado workshop is located in a small village in the southern Spain city of Cordoba in the región of Andalusia. The actual village where Rio Salado is based is an área recognized for its long tradition of clay crafts, getting its name from the yellow clay that comes from the área. This same village is built upon a prehistoric town with evidence of clay workmanship dating back more than 4000 years.

Del Rio Salado uses a special technique of painting three dimensional designs. The ceramics are hand painted with a paintbrush and then painted using a pear-shaped paint tube that applies a raised relief pattern.
