Bernat Fiol – Handmade Olive Wood from Mallorca

Bernat Fiol is a second-generation woodworker from the island of Mallorca, Spain, dedicated to creating some of the world’s finest hand-carved olive wood pieces. Together with his father, Bernat transforms century-old olive trees into works of art that are both functional and timeless.
The olive wood they use comes from trees that have stopped producing fruit, some more than 100 years old. This older wood offers an extraordinary grain and texture, with warm tones and intricate patterns that make each piece truly one-of-a-kind. Because large solid planks of olive wood are so rare, items over 12 inches in size are especially exceptional and highly sought after.
The crafting process is labor-intensive and completely artisanal: each plank is hand-carved and soaked in a water bath to seal and protect the wood from splitting. The wood is then air-dried for over two months before being treated with mineral oil, which enhances its natural beauty. Finally, every piece is hand-sanded to achieve a perfectly smooth finish.
Olive wood is not only strikingly beautiful but also extremely durable, making it ideal for kitchen use. The Fiol family workshop produces more than 400 different artisanal products, including salad bowls, salt cellars, oil and vinegar cruets, and mortar and pestle sets. These handcrafted creations combine practicality with Mediterranean elegance, bringing the timeless charm of Mallorca to your home.
