De la Cal Ceramics – Five Generations of Craftsmanship from Toledo

The De la Cal family represents five generations dedicated to the art of handcrafted ceramics. Their workshop is located in Puente del Arzobispo, a historic village in the Toledo province of Spain, renowned for centuries for its rich ceramic tradition.
Their process begins with natural clay sourced directly from the banks of the Tajo River. After carefully cleaning out impurities and mixing it to the perfect consistency, master potter Juan Diego De la Cal shapes each piece by hand at the wheel. The pieces are left to slowly dry in the warm Spanish sun before being fired at 1100°C to achieve lasting strength and durability.
Once fired, each ceramic is dipped into a glaze bath, creating a luminous surface that serves as a canvas for decoration. Ana Belén De la Cal and a team of skilled artisans then individually hand-paint every piece with patterns, colors, and motifs that reflect both tradition and personal artistry. No two items are ever identical—each is hand-signed by the artist who painted it, ensuring authenticity and uniqueness.
